Triangle Impact volunteers build a wheelchair ramp

Imagine having your freedom suddenly slip away. Becoming a captive in your own house. Hard to imagine, but this is what happens to many seniors as their mobility declines and they find themselves in a wheelchair, and then unable to get in and out of their homes.

As a Triangle Impact volunteer, I was able to make a difference in the life of a senior by building a wheelchair ramp one Saturday morning. We began with some wood, hammers, and nails, and within a few hours we had built a ramp. I have no construction experience, but the leader guided us every step of the way and it was easy to follow the directions. We had fun as a group, even though most of us had never met before.

It was SO cool to see the gentleman try out his new ramp for the first time. The smile on his face was awesome. I'll never forget that moment. And I'll definitely sign-up to do this again!
