Frequently Asked Questions

Who/What is Triangle Impact?
Triangle Impact, located in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, is an affiliate of the global Hands On Network. Hands On Network organizations, often known as "Cares" or "Hands On" organizations, engage over 350,000 volunteers in direct service to their communities each year. In cities large and small, 52 Hands On Network organizations have been established in the U.S., as well as international organizations in the Philippines, China, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

What does Triangle Impact do?
Triangle Impact connects people to rewarding volunteer opportunities with community agencies throughout the region*. We develop and coordinate projects that are scheduled on nights and weekends and can be completed in just a few hours. Our goal is to make meaningful community involvement possible for even the busiest individual. (*The Triangle region includes Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Chapel Hill, & the Research Triangle Park area.)

What kinds of projects does Triangle Impact offer?
Triangle Impact offers a wide variety of direct service projects to satisfy the needs of the community and the interests of our volunteers. Our projects range from helping the homeless to cleaning up the environment to sorting food and clothing to working with seniors. We encourage you to get involved, and if you don't see a project that meets your needs or interests, please contact us.

How can I volunteer for a project?
Check out our Volunteer Projects page and register an account up to get involved. When you see a project that interests you, just click the "Sign Up" button to let us know you're interested in participating in a specific event. A Project Leader will send you detailed information about the project and will meet you the day of the project at the event site. It's that easy!

Do I need any training or orientation to participate or volunteer?
Certain projects may begin with a short training or orientation. For example, the first 10 minutes of a project might include a "how-to" session for the activity. Otherwise, there is no training or orientation needed for Triangle Impact volunteers.

Can I just show up to a project?
No. In order to provide detailed information to our Project Leaders and Agency Partners it is important for us to know how many people are going to attend an event. Your pre-registration for a project lets us plan ahead so that you, the agency staff, and other Triangle Impact volunteers can have the best experience possible.

Can I bring a friend with me to a Triangle Impact project?
Contact your Project Leader to see if there is space available, or better yet, point them to the wesite so that they can sign up too. It is very important for us to know how many people are going to attend an event so that we can plan appropriately.

What is the age limit for volunteering with Triangle Impact?
Triangle Impact volunteers are at least 18 years of age. On occasion we offer "Family-Friendly" projects that are appropriate for parents to attend with their teenagers and/or children. These projects are clearly noted on our project calendar. Teens under the age of 18 MUST attend with a parent or guardian.

I've signed up for a project but now can't come - What should I do?
Contact your Project Leader right away! It is very important for us to know how many people are going to attend an event so that we can plan appropriately. If it's a last minute cancellation, we may ask for your help in finding someone to take your spot.

How can my non-profit agency partner with Triangle Impact?
Triangle Impact is always in search of new community partners. We work with local non-profit organizations to create, promote and direct a wide range of short-term, group volunteer projects. Please download our Project Guidelines document on the "Partners" tab for more information. We look forward to working with you!

My church group / social club / college / organization / etc wants to do a project together. Can we come as a group?
Yes, many groups often sign up to attend the same event. If you have signed up for a project and are interested in bringing additional volunteers with you, contact your Project Leader to see if there is space available. It is very important for us to know how many people are going to attend an event so that we can plan appropriately.

Will Triangle Impact provide volunteers for a fundraising event for my non-profit organization?
No, fundraising events are not added to the Triangle Impact project calendar.

Do you refer volunteers to local agencies?
